A TRIP TO REMEMBER

Last month I traveled to Hawaii to attend a college friend’s wedding. Expecting a weekend of pure relaxation and fun with old friends, it quickly turned into chaotic disaster and a trip to remember to say the least. Perhaps I was still getting over the (literal) sting from the trip to post these photos but long story short: I forgot my ENTIRE wallet at the airport, then within hours of arriving and running down to the beach, I got stung by jellyfish which had wrapped around both my legs, cut up my whole left knee from the coral reef while surfing, and finally getting stuck sitting next to a crying sick baby next to me on the flight back was the cherry on top (I did end up getting sick immediately after…of course).

Despite all of the pain and stress, the wedding was one of the most beautiful ones I had ever had the honor of attending. SO glad to have experienced it all. xx

For all the weddings you’ll be attending:

THE BOWL

Veggie-Quinoa-Breakfast-Bowl

Health has a new shape and it’s round in form. With juice fads and crazy diets, it’s impossible to know what’s truly healthy or what is substantially necessary for your diet. What I do know however is how fulfilling it is to create something with little time and ease and in a way that doesn’t break the bank. Stay tuned for more posts about my favorite bowls; something sweet and savory for everyone.

Today’s bowl: Veggie Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

yield: 1 serving

1/2 cup of quinoa, rinsed
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of water
broccoli, cut into florets
mushrooms, sliced
cheddar cheese, grated
salt & pepper, to taste
1 egg
Heat a little bit of olive oil in a pan over medium high. Add broccoli and mushrooms, and stir-fry until cooked (around 5 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside.

Combine milk, water, and quinoa in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer, stirring regularly*, until most of the liquid has been absorbed.

Add vegetables, cheese, and salt & pepper to the pot of quinoa and stir to combine. Cover and set aside.

Fry a sunny side–up egg.

Transfer the quinoa to a bowl, then top with the egg.

Living on the East Coast brings traveling to many of the iconic states something of a breeze. Hop on a train and you’re at your travel destination within hours. DC was #1 on my list of East Coast destinations and I was in constant awe of the city’s deep history and amazed by its cleanliness. Above are scenes from my memorable visit.

AT A STAND STILL

The mornings in SD are much more calm and relaxing than the fast paced life in the LA area. It’s a place where people say “Hello, how are you?” and sincerely mean it, unlike the inevitable repertoire of responses we have to such greetings here in LA. Sometimes its a breath of fresh air to to wake up in a different city, to catch a glimpse of the beautiful scenery and just breathe, or shall i say, remain at ‘a stand still’. We tried to capture that subdued essence in our photos over the weekend.

As a Real Estate Agent, Alan often has to work on weekends showing houses. This weekend I had the opportunity to tag along with him at a breathtaking $2.75million dollar listing in Rancho Santa Fe, SD. We couldn’t resist taking a few snapshots in the gorgeous house! Soon after his work was done, we went over to Hillcrest to do some major vintage shopping damage.
